Randy Moss is Brett Favre's new best friend

If you're a Minnesota Vikings fan, you've had your fair share of emotional ups and downs this season. With expectations set ridiculously high, you've had to weather the injury of Sydney Rice, the plummeting in performance (and apparently character) of Brett Favre, and a general lack of competence from the entire team on game day.

But you had at least one small moment to celebrate: Franchise icon Randy Moss was brought back to the club to save the day, taking pressure off of Favre, Rice, Adrian Peterson and Coach Brad Childress as the Norsemen refocused on their goal of an NFC title...

Now it's time to scratch your heads. After playing in only four games, the Minnesota brass has had enough with 84. According to ESPN, Childress told his players today that the organization was parting ways with Moss, although his name remains off the official team waivers as of this moment.

This is one of those moments AP writers in Minnesota were just waiting for. They've reported the Favre drama to death, and the Vikings really aren't playing well, so the time was ripe for some crazy crap to hit the fan. And the Purple People Eaters deliver yet again, making the front page of every sporting web site and publication for what seems like the 100th time in the past six months.

Everyone outside (and some inside, according to the ESPN report) the organization has got to be a little surprised by the info. I mean sure, Randy did rant a little bit, followed promptly by not speaking with the media to the tune of a $25,000 fine, but is that really such a big deal? With guys all over the league breaking the law, getting simple suspensions and coming back relatively soon, were his comments really so derisive that you were ready to let it burn, Vikings?

To take a phrase from the Dodger's super slugger, that's just Randy being Randy. The guy may take a play off or two, but he's still better than every healthy receiver on that roster (Percy Harvin gives him a run for his money, but the kid seems to be suffering from head aches every week). This is probably one of those things where something was said or decided behind closed doors and far away from the media, but it still seems like the Vikes are letting go a little too soon, especially after they gave up a third round draft pick to get him.

But you know Favre has to be eating this up! Imagine him yesterday: he tries to win in his courageous effort to overcome an injury and keep his consecutive games streak alive, only to get knocked out of the game and TAKEN OFF ON A CART due to a "facial laceration". (I got a facial laceration shaving this week, thank god the trainer could cart me in to work this morning.)

Now today, he's got to be expecting his usual array of Monday morning questions, when low and behold, Randy gets cut! It's like Favre's got a day off! He probably only had to fend of three or four reporters to get to his locker today, it must have felt like...he was retired!

But while Brett may be basking well away from the spotlight, the Vikings faithful have got to be a little disappointed to see Randy run out of town.
