The Rangers send out Colby Lewis to start Game Three. He has been stellar this postseason. He hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in any start tracing back to September 4. He only went 12-13 in the regular season but he's been on a tear as of late. And this postseason, his fastball has been unhittable. No right-handed bat has gotten a hit off his fastball this October. You read that right. No hits. He hopes to keep that trend going against the big right-handed bats of the Giants.
The Giants counter with Johnathan Sanchez, who in classic Giants fashion is torture. He led the MLB in walks (96), but also held the MLB's best batters average against (.204). His deceptive delivery and fastball command will be key against the Rangers hitters. They hope their friendly confines rattle the pitcher, but Sanchez is accustomed to hostile environments, having pitched all his postseason starts on the road.
This is a must-win for the Rangers. They can't afford to go down 3-0 against the deep Giants pitching staff. Only one team in history has come back from 3-0 in a best of seven series (Boston's magical 2004 season). The Giants on the other hand must make this a must-win to keep the momentum going and to demoralize the Rangers further.
Even though the Giants are up 2-0 in the series, the outcomes have been misleading. This series is much closer than the 11-7 and 9-0 scores dictate. These games are must watches...and besides, the Heat's trio of Bosh, James, and Wade played last night.
